6) EXTRA-HELP/PRACTICE: For those students who do their HW, I will be happy to give extra-help, personally. If you don’t do your HW, I can’t give ‘extra’ help, if you didn’t help yourself first.
7) TARDINESS: Three (3) unexcused tardies per marking period will earn you a detention.
8) HANDBOOK: You will be held to the expectations of the WHS Student Handbook.
9) HELP in getting any SUPPLIES: Please see me ahead of time if you need assistance in getting any school supplies (be it a notebook, voice or video recorder, computer, internet, paper, book covers, etc.). I will be happy to assist you.
10) Communicate: WHS Core Values and Beliefs states that students will effectively communicate through speaking and writing. That necessitates active listening.
11) TEAMWORK: WHS Core Values and Beliefs states that students will understand and apply the attributes of being a positive contributor to a team. The majority of adult jobs utilizes teams. In class, you are expected to work cooperatively in pairs and groups, turn-and-talk, etc.
12) INTERDISCIPLINARY: WHS promotes interdisciplinary lessons (lessons which cross and span the various disciplines). Expect to see Spanish/French incorporated with math, science, history, culinary arts, music, English vocab and grammar, technology, etc., etc.
13) FAMILY: We are a learning family in French/Spanish class. We are here to support and one another, take risks, not be afraid of not being right or perfect. Our class is to be a welcoming, safe, enjoyable, and learning environment.
14) RIGHT to LEARN: The only reason school exists, is for students to learn. You are expected to behave in such a way that you do NOT infringe on others’ opportunity to learn, or on my obligation to teach them.
15) SUCCESSFUL SCHOOOL YEAR: Good luck in the school year. There is always a way for you to succeed. We have given you, and will continue to give you, the tools that you need in order to be successful. All you need to do is take advantage of the opportunity.
GRADING
16)GRADES: Your average for the class will be determined by the following criteria:
17)QUIZ & TEST GRADES Evaluates your demonstration of learning, ability, and achievement. Various types include traditional, projects, presentations, essays, performances, exhibitions, etc.
18) CLASSWORK GRADES
Classwork consists of: calentamientos (warm-ups), partner work, partner and group conversation, speaking activities, participating, correcting your HW, etc., etc. Classwork grades consist of activity grades worth 10 pts. Since you are part of WHS, you are expected to be on task, to participate and try, as well as to be prepared. Below is the rubric for the classwork grades (class activity grades).
Specific Activity Grading (10 pts)
How much/well you attempt.
How much Spanish you attempt.
How much English you use.
How much you are on task and engaged in the lesson.
How much you contribute to, or detract from, activity at hand.
19) HOMEWORK GRADES HW is worth 10pts. If you do all the HW, you earn a 10. If you do half, you earn 5. The percentage of HW you complete, is the percentage of points you earn. The HW is being graded on completion-- not correctness. Hence, you are earning an easy A. HW zero: you may make it up for ½ credit for the next class the next day. Nothing after that. HW is to be completed on notebook paper and in your notebook, please. If not, you will lose 20% (2pts). If you don’t have your HWready for when I come around checking (you are already supposed to have it out when the class starts, plus I will have announced for you to have the HW out; giving you plenty of time to open your binder to your HW), it will cost 20% (2pts). HW extra-credit can get you +30% (3pts) added to your 10pts. Extra-credit is explained more in section #5.
20) EXTRA-CREDIT- on HW only You can earn 30% extra, depending on how much extra HW you actually do. Examples of how to extra-HW credit are: doing the assignment twice Exception: no extra-credit for doing the following twice: circling, underlining, identifying, filling in blanks, etc. twice in addition to the written assignment, recite it out on audio when the assignment asks you answer questions, then write out the questions as well when the assignment asks you to write or to speak something 5x, you write it 10x exception: no extra-credit for studying extra for tests/quizzes-- some need to put in extra anyway exception: no extra-credit for doing the following twice: circling, underlining, identifying, filling in blanks, etc. twice
21) BINDER ORGANIZATION GRADES a) please take your binder home with you each time that you have HW- and refer to the sources b) please have a large 3-ring loose leaf binder c) the binder can also be used for other subjects d) the binder should have with two (2) sections- with dividers, tabs and section titles e) the sections shall be in the following order: 1st section - Administrative Section - starting with an (administrative) table of contents page of entries 2nd section - Coursework section - starting with a (coursework) table of contents page of entries f) we will have regular binder checks, for an easy A each time g) each full binder check is worth 100 pts. Each spot check is worth 10 pts per item.

22) MAKE-UPS for WORK, due to EXCUSED ABSENCES
You may not make up unexcused absences (see student handbook). You are responsible to look on my school website, to find out what you missed, then make it up. You have two concurrent days, after you return, to make up work. Late fees: HW make-ups → ½ credit for one day overdue, zero credit for two days overdue Late fees: quiz make-ups → -10 pts for each day overdue
23) TEACHER ABSENCE:If I am absent from class, my expectations are that you behave and work as if I were still in class.
